WOLFSBURG – Volkswagen and NVIDIA have unveiled their collaborative vision for the future of intelligent vehicles at the 2018 International CES. Volkswagen CEO Dr. Herbert Diess and NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang took the stage to discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning will revolutionize the automotive industry, with a particular focus on the innovative I.D. BUZZ electric vehicle.
Dr. Diess emphasized the pivotal role of AI in shaping the future of automobiles, highlighting its significance for autonomous driving, zero-emission mobility, and digital connectivity. By joining forces with NVIDIA, a leader in AI technology, Volkswagen aims to propel its vehicles into a new era of innovation and accessibility.
Jensen Huang echoed Dr. Diess’s sentiments, envisioning a future where AI assistants become standard features in every vehicle, offering enhanced safety, comfort, and accessibility. Together, Volkswagen and NVIDIA are poised to redefine the driving experience, making it safer and more enjoyable for all.
A key highlight of the collaboration is the integration of “Intelligent Co-Pilot” capabilities into the Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ, leveraging AI to enhance convenience and assistance systems. These features, powered by NVIDIA’s DRIVETM IX Intelligent Experience platform, include facial recognition for vehicle access, driver alerts for bicycles, gesture recognition for user controls, and natural language understanding for voice commands.
The I.D. BUZZ represents Volkswagen’s commitment to electric mobility and autonomous driving, with plans to launch more than 20 fully electric vehicles by 2025. Built on the innovative MEB car architecture, these vehicles offer zero-emission driving and cutting-edge technologies, including augmented reality displays and advanced assistance systems.
With the integration of AI and deep learning, Volkswagen is paving the way for a future where cars are not just modes of transportation but intelligent companions that adapt to the needs of drivers and passengers alike.
