Fellows Program
The OpenAI Fellows program offers a unique opportunity for individuals currently studying AI or seeking to transition from diverse fields into AI research. The program aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in artificial intelligence research.
Selected Fellows undergo a comprehensive curriculum crafted by OpenAI’s esteemed researchers during the initial two months of the program. Following this, Fellows spend the subsequent four months working on a research project tailored to their interests, under the mentorship of experienced professionals at OpenAI. This six-month immersive experience is designed specifically for those aspiring to pursue a career in AI research and leverage their existing expertise in other domains.
What We’re Looking For
We encourage applicants from various backgrounds, including genetics, software engineering, physics, and theoretical computer science, to apply. Priority will be given to candidates who can commit to joining OpenAI full-time post-program. We seek individuals with a fervent passion for research, demonstrated by their previous project experiences.

Interns Program
The OpenAI Interns program offers aspiring researchers an opportunity to work alongside OpenAI’s dedicated teams and contribute to cutting-edge AI research. Interns engage in impactful projects, such as robotics research, and conduct their own investigations into AI under the guidance of experienced mentors.
What We’re Looking For
We seek self-directed individuals with a proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Practical skills, including the ability to implement ideas efficiently and communicate effectively, are highly valued. Additionally, candidates with a strong scientific background, evidenced by single-author papers or significant open-source contributions to the machine learning community, are encouraged to apply.

- Early Decision Applications Close: November 2, 2018
- General Admission Applications Close: March 15, 2019 (International) / April 15, 2019 (US)
- Internship Period: 3 months, starting May 2019
