SANTA CLARA — NVIDIA has introduced two community-developed plug-ins for the popular note-taking app Obsidian, demonstrating how next-generation app developers can harness large language models (LLMs) on RTX AI-powered PCs. These integrations, accessible to users through NVIDIA’s RTX-accelerated local inference servers, highlight how AI can simplify productivity workflows and enhance user experience.
Obsidian, an app known for managing complex, linked notes in Markdown, now supports plug-ins that connect it to local inferencing servers like LM Studio. With NVIDIA’s powerful llama.cpp software library, users can effortlessly integrate LLMs into their Obsidian workflows. Plug-ins such as Text Generator and Smart Connections provide advanced capabilities, enabling users to quickly generate content or retrieve information stored in Obsidian’s vault.

To set up these tools, users need to launch LM Studio, activate the local server, and obtain the server URL. Within Obsidian, users can browse community plug-ins, like Text Generator, which assists in creating notes or summaries, or Smart Connections, which helps retrieve specific information from archived notes through retrieval-augmented generation. After configuring each plug-in with the LM Studio server URL, Obsidian users gain AI-driven functionality, like generating ideas for a fictional trip or easily finding specific details from past notes.
