BONN – Deutsche Telekom (ETR: DTE), a global leader in telecommunications, has unveiled plans to establish a cutting-edge 5G campus network at the Werner-von-Siemens Centre for Industry and Science e.V. in Berlin. Supported by federal and state funding, the center serves as a collaborative hub for industry players, research institutions, and startups to drive innovation in practical solutions for businesses, according to a press release published on EuropaWire.
The 5G campus network, situated within the Future Factory Hub, will serve as a catalyst for research and experimentation in autonomous production logistics. Leveraging the power of 5G connectivity and edge computing, the initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies within industrial settings. With funding from the Berlin Senate, Deutsche Telekom is committed to facilitating the seamless integration of innovative solutions into companies’ production processes.
Lutz Schneider, leading the solutions for autonomous logistics at T-Systems, expressed enthusiasm for supporting the development of cutting-edge industrial solutions enabled by ultra-fast mobile communications and edge computing. By deploying campus networks, Telekom empowers companies to optimize internal logistical processes through networked machines, robots, and autonomous transport vehicles. Additionally, T-Systems offers EdgAir, a bespoke cloud computing solution, facilitating on-site data processing and analysis within the customer’s IT environment. This eliminates latency issues associated with transferring data to a central cloud, enabling the realization of innovative technologies such as edge analytics, local artificial intelligence, and augmented reality/virtual reality.
