SINGAPORE — Databricks, a global leader in data and AI, has announced the expansion of its operations in Singapore, designating the city-state as its regional headquarters for the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region. This strategic move includes plans to significantly increase its local workforce and deepen partnerships aimed at advancing Singapore’s AI ecosystem. The announcement was made during the Data + AI World Tour Singapore event held at Sands Expo & Convention Centre, with Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How as the Guest-of-Honor.

Expanding Databricks’ Regional Presence
The company, in collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board, is creating new roles across field engineering, professional services, strategy, operations, and learning and enablement. Databricks has already tripled its Singapore-based workforce over the past three years, reflecting the growing demand for its data intelligence solutions across the region.

“Singapore’s strengths as a hub for Southeast Asia, including its robust digital infrastructure and skilled workforce, make it an ideal location for our regional headquarters,” said Ed Lenta, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Databricks APJ. “We are committed to expanding our presence here and contributing to the local AI ecosystem by helping to upskill the workforce and drive innovation.”

Supporting Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0
Aligned with Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0, Databricks is partnering with NTUC LearningHub and NUS ICT Academy to equip over 10,000 individuals with advanced data and AI skills within the next three years. These training programs, offered in collaboration with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), will provide courses and certifications designed to enhance participants’ understanding of data and AI technologies, enabling them to leverage Databricks tools effectively.

“Empowering the workforce with in-demand skills is critical for navigating the rapidly evolving tech landscape,” said Amos Tan, Chief Core Skills Officer at NTUC LearningHub. “Our collaboration with Databricks will provide a range of training programs to strengthen Singapore’s position as a regional hub for emerging technologies.”

Fostering Innovation Through Collaboration
The Data + AI World Tour Singapore event, attended by over 1,000 data and AI professionals, showcased real-world use cases from organizations like Grab, GovTech, and the Central Provident Fund Board. This global event series serves as a platform for industry leaders to exchange insights and best practices, supporting Databricks’ mission to accelerate AI adoption worldwide.

“By combining the power of data and AI with our advanced tools and services, Databricks empowers organizations to unlock the full value of their data securely and privately,” added Lenta.

Databricks’ investment in Singapore underscores its commitment to advancing the region’s AI capabilities, fostering innovation, and enabling businesses and professionals to thrive in a data-driven future.
