MUNICH — At CES 2024, Infineon Technologies AG and Aurora Labs revealed a pioneering set of AI-based solutions aimed at enhancing the safety and reliability of essential automotive components such as steering, braking, and airbags. This collaboration integrates Aurora Labs’ Line-of-Code Intelligence™ (LOCI) AI technology with Infineon’s 32-bit TriCore™ AURIX™ TC4x family of microcontrollers (MCUs), enabling automotive manufacturers to improve vehicle safety and performance throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle, according to a press release published on EuropaWire.
Zohar Fox, CEO and Co-founder of Aurora Labs, emphasized the benefits of this partnership for automotive safety. “Our joint solution with Infineon leverages AI to automate processes across the vehicle’s software lifecycle, enhancing real-time monitoring and response capabilities at both MCU and ECU levels to meet WP29 requirements. It’s designed to safeguard against malicious attacks and hardware safety failures, thus ensuring a safer driving experience,” Fox explained. He further highlighted that this solution facilitates OEM software development by providing predictive safety maintenance based on AI capabilities, ensuring compliance with the highest safety standards such as ASIL-D.
Thomas Schneid, Senior Director Software, Partner and Ecosystem Management at Infineon, also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “Partnering with Aurora Labs allows us to bring a new level of safety to predictive maintenance applications in vehicles. Combining our robust AURIX MCUs with Aurora Labs’ software protects against silent data corruption and software misbehavior in chipsets, significantly enhancing safety for critical automotive functions,” Schneid stated.
The AURIX TC4x family of MCUs are specially designed for next-generation eMobility and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), supporting sophisticated automotive E/E architectures and AI applications. Aurora Labs’ AI and ML features are integrated into the AURIX TC4x’s Parallel Processing Unit (PPU), a dedicated AI accelerator that operates independently of the main CPU running OEM applications.
The new predictive safety maintenance solution from Infineon and Aurora Labs is now available, promising to set new standards in automotive safety and reliability. More details about this innovative technology can be found on Infineon’s website and Aurora Labs’ dedicated product page.
