MENLO PARK — Meta and IBM have officially launched the AI Alliance, a global coalition dedicated to fostering collaboration between over 50 leading organizations, including AMD, Anyscale, CERN, Hugging Face, Intel, and numerous academic institutions such as Cornell, Dartmouth, and Yale. This international initiative, authored by Meta, is designed to advance open, responsible AI innovation by promoting safety, trust, and scientific rigor in the development of artificial intelligence technologies. The Alliance will act as a platform for shared knowledge, resources, and standards, facilitating collaboration across industry, government, and academia to shape AI’s future responsibly. By pooling expertise, the Alliance aims to accelerate AI progress while addressing safety concerns and ethical considerations, offering developers and researchers the tools necessary to build AI systems that are both powerful and secure.
Through initiatives such as developing benchmarks, evaluation standards, and educational content, the AI Alliance seeks to ensure AI innovation benefits society at large, while advancing AI’s potential in areas like climate, education, and healthcare. This collaboration is intended to support global AI skills development, foster a vibrant AI hardware accelerator ecosystem, and advocate for precision regulation to address AI-related risks.
The founding members, which include NASA, CERN, MLCommons, and major universities such as EPFL and ETH Zurich, emphasize the importance of open science and transparency to accelerate innovation. The Alliance will also work closely with existing initiatives, leveraging the collective experience and knowledge of its members to address AI safety, security, and fairness on a global scale.
In addition to focusing on responsible AI development, the Alliance will foster discussions on AI’s societal impacts, exploring AI use cases at events and workshops, including the NeurIPS 2023 conference. This global effort, supported by industry, academic, and research leaders, represents a significant step toward building a responsible AI future.
IBM and Meta are excited to announce the co-launch of the AI Alliance, bringing together a distinguished group of partners and collaborators from across industry, academia, and government. This diverse coalition includes prominent institutions such as:
