LAS VEGAS – Bosch, a global leader in technology and services, showcased its innovative solutions for smart cities at the CES 2018 in Las Vegas. Addressing the pressing challenges of urbanization, the company presented a comprehensive portfolio aimed at enhancing urban living through advancements in mobility, air quality, security, convenience, and more, according to a press release published on EuropaWire.
Stefan Hartung, a member of the Bosch management board, emphasized the necessity of integrating technology into urban infrastructure to tackle the evolving needs of modern cities. “We need a new conception of the city. One key factor here is technologies that make cities smart and worth living in. In the long run, cities without intelligence will not survive, but succumb to gridlock,” Hartung remarked.
Bosch’s vision for smart cities encompasses a range of solutions designed to improve the quality of life for residents. These solutions include real-time air quality monitoring, flood risk management systems, automated parking services, and advanced energy management solutions. Speaking at the CES event, Hartung highlighted Bosch’s unique position in offering a comprehensive suite of products and services for smart cities, emphasizing the company’s expertise in sensors, software, and services.
The smart city market is witnessing rapid growth, with cities worldwide investing in technology-driven solutions to address urban challenges. According to Bosch’s research, the smart city market is expected to grow by 19 percent annually, reaching a volume of 800 billion dollars by 2020. Bosch sees this as a significant business opportunity and is actively involved in numerous smart city projects globally.
One such project showcased at CES is the Climo microclimate monitoring system, developed in collaboration with Intel. This innovative system, recognized with a CES Honoree Innovation Award, provides real-time monitoring and analysis of air quality parameters at a fraction of the cost of traditional systems.
Another highlight is Bosch’s flood monitoring system, which utilizes IoT technology to provide early warnings of potential flooding. By monitoring river water levels in real time and alerting municipalities and residents, this system helps mitigate the impact of climate change-induced weather events.
Bosch is also revolutionizing urban mobility with its connected parking solutions, aimed at reducing congestion and improving the overall driving experience. Through community-based parking and automated valet parking services, the company seeks to streamline the parking process and optimize space utilization in urban areas.
In addition to its focus on mobility and environmental sustainability, Bosch is committed to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) research. With investments totaling 300 million euros by 2021, the company aims to integrate AI into its products and services, anticipating a future where AI will be essential across various industries.
As cities continue to grapple with the challenges of urbanization, Bosch remains at the forefront of innovation, delivering smart solutions that enhance urban living and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
