SANTA MONICA — Santa Monica-based AI startup rabbit Inc. has unveiled its first product, the r1, an innovative AI-native device designed to revolutionize the way users interact with technology. Built on rabbit’s proprietary Large Action Model (LAM), r1 offers an app-free experience by navigating and automating tasks across apps, eliminating unnecessary complexity. Priced at $199, r1 is available for pre-order starting today, with U.S. shipments beginning in late March 2024.
Transforming Technology with Large Action Model (LAM)
At the heart of r1 is LAM, a groundbreaking AI system capable of understanding user intentions and performing tasks across digital interfaces. Unlike traditional AI models that generate text responses, LAM executes actions on behalf of users by learning how they interact with apps. This allows r1 to streamline digital workflows, from booking travel to managing virtual shopping carts, without requiring users to switch between apps or download multiple tools.
rabbit OS: A Personalized AI Experience
r1 is powered by rabbit OS, the first operating system built on LAM. The system enables users to delegate tasks to AI agents, called “rabbits,” that can handle everything from simple searches to complex workflows. Through the rabbithole cloud portal, users maintain control over their connected services, with no need for proxy accounts or additional subscriptions. rabbit OS prioritizes user privacy by processing data securely and transparently, ensuring complete control over the AI’s actions.
Hardware Designed for Simplicity and Functionality
Created in collaboration with Teenage Engineering, the r1 combines nostalgic design elements with cutting-edge technology. Compact and lightweight, the device features a vibrant Luminous Orange colorway, a 2.88-inch touchscreen, a scroll wheel for navigation, and a motorized AI-powered camera called “rabbit eye.” Its intuitive design simplifies interactions, enabling users to quickly perform tasks that would typically require navigating multiple apps on a smartphone.
Internally, r1 includes a 2.3 GHz MediaTek Helio P35 processor, 4 GB of memory, and 128 GB of storage. With Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, an all-day battery, and a USB-C port, the device operates independently of a smartphone, offering versatility and convenience.
Privacy, Responsibility, and Sustainability at Its Core
rabbit Inc. has built r1 with user privacy and sustainability in mind. The device lacks “always listening” features, and its microphone and camera activate only with user permission. Securely offloading computational tasks to data centers reduces the need for bulky processors, making the r1 both cost-efficient and energy-saving. Users can delete stored data and have full control over linked services.
A Leap Towards an App-Free Future
“Today marks a significant shift in how humans interact with machines,” said Jesse Lyu, rabbit Founder and CEO. “With hundreds of apps creating friction in our digital lives, rabbit introduces an intuitive solution. Our Large Action Model not only understands natural language but also acts on it, turning intentions into actions.”
Pre-orders for the r1 device are available now at rabbit.tech, with shipments in the U.S. starting in late March 2024. Global orders will follow later in the year, bringing rabbit’s vision of accessible and efficient AI-powered devices to users worldwide.
