MOUNTAIN VIEW — In the latest Lab Session, Google Labs has teamed up with Jacob Collier, the renowned multi-instrumentalist and six-time Grammy winner, to refine and expand MusicFX DJ—a generative music tool that allows users to create seamless musical experiences. This innovative collaboration, developed alongside Google DeepMind, aims to make musical expression more intuitive and accessible for creators of all skill levels.
MusicFX DJ lets users become the conductor of their own AI-driven jam session, blending different musical prompts like instruments, genres, and even moods to generate a continuous stream of music. Collier’s input helped the team enhance the user experience, focusing on providing more creative control through an intuitive interface. New features, available today, include enhanced controls that enable users to adjust the tempo and tone of their music, creating sounds that are bright or dark, fast or slow.
Reflecting on his creative process, Jacob Collier shared, “I often start with a simple question: What am I dreaming up today? Answering that question is the key to finding flow, and once you’re in that flow, you’re off, you’re going.” His vision shaped MusicFX DJ’s focus on achieving this creative flow, empowering users to explore and experiment without limits.

A key addition to MusicFX DJ is the ability to share up to 60 seconds of a music session with others, allowing them to use it as a starting point for their own creations. This feature enables users to take control of a session and remix it, building on the initial composition and exploring new musical directions together.
Google Labs’ collaboration with Collier underscores the value of experimentation in the creative process. Working closely with artists, technologists, and creatives, Google Labs aims to push the boundaries of what’s possible in artistic innovation. This partnership exemplifies how creative minds can reshape technology, offering musicians a new way to interact with AI-driven music tools.
